UC Irvine – Natural Sciences

client: Carrier Johnson

location: Irvine, California

The University of California, Irvine, Natural Sciences Unit 1 project is marked by a four-story cast in place integral colored concrete, glass curtain wall panel system and a barreled copper canopy over the laboratory building. The new facility is designed as two wings. One runs north-south and a classroom, office and conference room wing runs east-west. The building’s main circular glassed entry joins the two wings on the east facade, linking up with one of the UCI’s campus pedestrian circular courts.

The laboratory suites are large, open areas suitable for flexible planning and layout with auxiliary support areas in the center. The lower level accommodates two NMR laboratories, one inside the main building foot print and another isolated adjacent to the laboratory south entry.
